CJI condoles death of former SC judge MY Eqbal

Former Supreme Court judge Justice MY Eqbal passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram on Thursday.
He was 70. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Justice Eqbal and offered condolences to the bereaved family. “There is one announcement we have to make before we start today’s proceeding. I am sorry to inform the members of the Bar and Bench. Former judge of this court Justice MY Eqbal has passed away. We are sad and mourn his death,” the CJI announced on Friday immediately after his Bench assembled through video-conferencing.
Justice Ramana said he was shocked at the news and that a full court reference would be held later to remember the departed soul. He started his legal profession from Ranchi in 1975 and became a judge of the Patna High Court in May 1996. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in June 2010.
Justice Eqbal was elevated to the top court in December, 2012 and demitted office after serving nearly four years on February 12, 2016.
