Cong fields Digvijaya, Tulsi, Venugopal for RS elections

New Delhi, March 12
The Congress tonight nominated veteran leader Digvijaya Singh from Madhya Pradesh, legal luminary KTS Tulsi from Chhattisgarh and Deepender Hooda from Haryana among 12 candidates announced for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha.
Besides Hooda, who lost the last Lok Sabha polls, the party decided to field Congress general secretary KC Venugopal from Rajasthan and AICC secretary Rajiv Satav from Maharashtra.
Deepender Hooda, Venugopal and Satav are considered members of the Rahul Gandhi team.
The party also gave tickets to Bharatsinh Solanki, son of former Gujarat CM Madhavsinh Solanki, from Gujarat along with Shaktisinh Gohil, following revolt in the state unit over reported nomination of Rajeev Shukla. On his part, Shukla tweeted that he requested to be spared as he was engaged in party work.
Other party candidates cleared by party president Sonia Gandhi include Phulo Devi Netam from Chhattisgarh, Shahzada Anwar from Jharkhand, Phool Singh Baraiya from MP, Kennedy Khyiem from Meghalaya and Neeraj Dangi from Rajasthan.
Cong MLA moves HC to save voting rights
Ahmedabad: Congress MLA Natha Patel on Thursday moved the Gujarat High Court to save his voting rights during the RS polls in the state for four seats. In his petition, Patel claimed his voting rights might be taken away at the behest of the ruling BJP ahead of the RS polls. Patel’s petition came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Bhargav Karia, but the judges recused themselves from taking up the matter, saying “not before me”. Now, it is expected that HC Chief Justice Vikram Nath will allot a new court on Friday to hear the plea. PTI
Shiv Sena nominates Priyanka Chaturvedi
Mumbai: The Shiv Sena on Thursday nominated its deputy leader Priyanka Chaturvedi as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Maharashtra, a party leader said. Chaturvedi had quit the Congress and joined the Shiv Sena in April 2019 as she was upset with Congress’s decision to reinstate the party workers, who had allegedly misbehaved with her. PTI
