Congress announces 440-member jumbo team for TN elections

Congress president Sonia Gandhi today unveiled a jumbo party team for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections, causing consternation within over the effectiveness of such an exercise.
Gandhi approved 440-member strong Tamil Nadu Congress and election committees leading to MP Karti Chidambaram tweeting: “These jumbo committees serve no purpose. None will have any authority which means no accountability.”
The approved Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) list consists of 32 vice-presidents, 57 general secretaries, 104 secretaries, 59 executive committee members, 32 district Congress presidents; 39-member state election committee; 38-member election coordination committee, 31-member publicity committee, 24-member manifesto panel; 16-member media panel and six-member election management team.

Former ministers P Chidambaram and Mani Shankar Aiyar form a part of the TNCC’s executive committee with Chidambaram along with MP Manickam Tagore also finding a place in the Tamil Nadu Congress election committee, which will shortlist candidates for state polls.
