New Delhi, February 12
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday accepted resignations of All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Delhi PC Chacko and Delhi Congress chief Subhash Chopra a day after the Congress won no seats in the state assembly elections.
Shakti Gohil made temporary AICC in-charge of Delhi. The development comes the day after Congress party’s poor show in the assembly elections led to both Chacko and Chopra offering their resignations.
The Congress drew a blank in the assembly elections, much like the last elections in 2015.
Aam Aadmi Party swept the elections with 62 seats in the 70-member Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party came a distant second with eight seats. Some 63 Congress candidates lost their deposits over the party’s poor showing. Congress, which contested the elections in alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal, got less than 5 per cent vote share.
