New Delhi, June 12
Union ministers and the BJP on Saturday slammed Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s remarks that his party would consider reinstating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir if voted to power.
The remarks by Singh were made in a clubhouse chat on the issue where he said this in response to a Pakistan journalist’s question as to what the Congress would do on Article 370 should the BJP be ousted.
The BJP was quick to field spokesperson Sambit Patra to question the Congress policy on Pakistan, with union ministers Jitendra Singh and Giriraj Singh following up.
Congress has a history of siding with Pakistan, said Patra attacking Singh and reminding, “This is the same Congress leader who said Mumbai attacks were an RSS conspiracy.”
“We demand a clarification from Rahul Gandhi on the remarks of Digvijay Singh. What do Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have to say? This club house is a grouping of people who hate PM Narendra Modi and in their hatred for him hate India too. What we heard in the club house was no coincidence.
It was stage managed and part of the Congress toolkit we flagged earlier. We want to ask what locus did a Pakistan journalist have in assuming a scenario of BJP’s ouster from power? And Digvijay Singh thanked the Pakistan journalist,” said Patra.
Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh joined the issue saying it is precisely this mindset of the Congress, which has sown the seeds of separatism in Kashmir and facilitated Pak designs in the Valley.
Another minister Giriraj Singh attacked the Congress saying the
Congress’s first love is Pakistan.
“Digvijay Singh conveyed Rahul Gandhi’s message to Pakistan. Congress will help Pakistan in grabbing Kashmir,” Giriraj Singh said.
Digvijay sought to clarify issues saying “the uneducated segment does not know the difference between shall and consider”.
The Congress leader said he only said the issue could be considered and did not say anything definitively.
BJP IT head Amit Malviya said “In a Club House chat, Rahul Gandhi’s top aide Digvijaya Singh tells a Pakistani journalist that if Congress comes to power they will reconsider the decision of abrogating Article 370…Really? This is exactly what Pakistan wants.”
The Congress officially said the party has clearly stated its position on JK in a CWC resolution of August 6, 2019.
“This is the official position of the party. We urge all leaders to refer to it,” Congress spokesman Pawan Khera said.
The CWC had then said that Article 370 is a constitutional recognition of the Instrument of Accession of JK to the union of India and it should have been honoured until amended in accordance with the Constitution and after consultations with the people.
