Former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah has told the Supreme Court that the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was peaceful and the inconvenience being caused to commuters was due to the barricades “unnecessarily” put up by the police on roads far away from the site.

The same stand has been taken by social activist Syed Bahadur Abbas Naqvi and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad in their joint affidavit filed in the apex court.

Habibullah had visited the protest site pursuant to the direction by a Bench, which is scheduled to hear the matter on Monday. Habibullah further told the court the agitating women had chosen the spot for safety as they had been getting “regular threats”. The SC will hear the matter on Monday. — TNS & PTI

Ex-Guv slams Wajahat, you’re ‘wajah’ of problem

New Delhi: Late Union minister Sushma Swaraj’s husband and former Governor Swaraj Kaushal has flayed CAA interlocutor Wajahat Habibullah. Kaushal took to Twitter to allege: “Wajahat Habibullah has become ‘wajah’ of the problem. You were asked to bridge the gap. But you have ‘gapped the bridge’. You were asked to convince protesters to clear the Delhi-Noida road. You have returned with a justification of the 68-day blockade.”
