He had previously isolated himself after his security staff and a journalist he interacted with positive for coronavirus. In all, 14 people he had come into contact with have tested positive. The minister said in a tweet last week that his test came back negative but that he was quarantining himself as a precaution.

The minister was interacting with people in his constituency Mumbra-Kalwa and was overseeing supply of relief material to people affected by the lockdown before his security staff tested positive.

According to health department officials here, Awhad’s five security personnel, three constables posted at his residence, his cook, a television journalist and his cameraman and some party workers had tested positive for the virus earlier.
