Covid-19: Centre engages 16 districts with 17% of overall active case load

The Health Ministryon Friday engaged 16 districts which contribute 17 per cent of India’s current active case load of COVID and which have higher death rate than the national average.
These 16 districts are in four states and include Ahmedabad and Surat in Gujarat; Belagavi, Bengaluru urban, Kalaburagi and Udupi in Karnataka; Chennai, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Theni, Thiruvallur, Tiruchirappalli, Tuticorin and Virudhnagar in Tamil Nadu; Hyderabad and Medchal Malkajgiri in Telangana. Apart from the higher case mortality, these districts account for 17 pc of India’s active cases, high daily new cases, low tests per million, and high confirmation percentage.
Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan spoke to principal health secretaries of the four states asking them to follow central advisories to contain the pandemic.
These rising cases in these 16 districts are a matter of concern, said Bhushan.
