'Cured' Italian tourist dies in Jaipur

An Italian tourist, who was discharged from SMS Hospital after undergoing treatment for Covid last week, died of cardiac arrest today.

The deceased has been identified as Andrea Carli (69).

In an official statement, Rohit Kumar Singh, the Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, said, “The death occurred due to heart failure.”

“The patient was declared treated on March 14. He was a chain smoker and vulnerable,” Singh said.

Carli’s wife had also been tested positive for the virus, said Singh.

A top administrator of Fortis, where he was admitted on March 15, told The Tribune that the patient did not die because of Covid, as his had been cured. “He suffered serious lung and liver infections followed by cardiac arrest. He was on life support since yesterday,” he said.

Carli’s wife is still under treatment at Fortis.
