Days after sitarist Debu’s death, his son passes away

Almost a week after his father, music maestro Pandit Devbrata Chaudhuri, succumbed to the virus, his son Prateek Chaudhuri (49) too died due to Covid-related complications.

Pt Prateek’s wife Runa and four-year-old daughter Ryana are also infected. He was on ventilator for a few days. In his music, one experienced grace, fluidity and dexterity with each note. Prateek also taught the instrument as a professor at the University of Delhi.

He learnt music under the tutelage of his father sitar maestro Pt Debu Chaudhury and for his Dadaguru (father’s guru) Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan Sahib, the great legend of

the ‘Senia’ tradition, named after Mian Tansen. Prateek was ranked the ‘Top Class’ artist by Radio and National Television of India. He was awarded the ‘Tantra Shringar Shiromani Award’, Stings N Steps Global Award and the reputed Kala Ratna Award among others. — TNS
