Mumbai: Doctors are considered second to God and this came true for a newborn in the neighbouring Alibaug town, who was taken to a neonatal facility on a doctor’s two-wheeler when he developed respiratory problems just minutes after birth. Alibaug resident Shweta Patil developed labour pains on Friday and was rushed to a nursing home by her husband Ketan. However, the newborn developed breathing problems. With no means of transportation available, the newborn was taken to Chandorkar’s hospital on the doctor’s two-wheeler. PTI
TN man pedals 130 km for wife’s chemo session
Chennai: In an example of “selfless love” in Tamil Nadu, a 65-year-old man took his cancer-stricken wife on a bicycle and pedalled 130 km to reach hospital, so that she did not miss her chemotherapy session. Arivazhagan pedaled with his 60-year-old wife Manjula on his bicycle from his village near Kumbakonam to JIPMER hospital in Puducherry for her chemotherapy session. Owing to the lockdown, buses were shut between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. IANS
Railways delivers camel milk for autistic child
New Delhi: The Railways transported 20 litres of camel milk to a family in Mumbai after a woman tweeted about its non-availability for her three-and-a-half-year-old autistic child, who is allergic to goat, cow and buffalo milk. This good deed of the Railways came to light on Saturday when senior IPS officer Arun Bothra tweeted about it. Renu Kumari, mother of the child, had tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet, in which she highlighted her son’s plight. PTI
NCC cadets deployed to tackle covid crisis
New Delhi: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has deployed some 2,000 of its cadets under the ‘Exercise NCC Yogdan’ in fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Around 2,000 cadets are already deployed in 12 states and UTs for traffic duty, preparing or packing food, supply-chain management, manning control centres, etc. The Headquarters Directorate General NCC is monitoring the number of cadets volunteering for the cause. Around 50,000 cadets have so far volunteered to contribute. Apart from this, NCC cadets are sensitising the people to the pandemic by sending messages on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and WhatsApp, etc. TNS
Doctors of Indian origin join hands to fight virus
New Delhi: Doctors of Indian origin across the world have joined hands under the umbrella of ‘Global Indian Physician Covid-19 Collaborative’ to combat coronavirus. The move aims to “foster cross-systems learning” to develop prevention and management strategy for Covid-19 which will include vaccination, newer diagnostic tests, ventilation strategies, early warning algorithms, antiviral therapy, plasma therapy and novel agents. States, UTs told to give medics police cover
New Delhi: The government on Saturday reiterated its direction to states and Union Territories to ensure adequate police protection to doctors and medical staff going to hospitals or quarantine centres during the pandemic, said a senior MHA official. Joint Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava said the lockdown guidelines were being followed strictly. TNS
Some relief, Punjab sees 7 cases in 24 hrs
Chandigarh: After a spike in cases in the past three days, Saturday brought some relief as just seven cases were reported in Punjab. This is just one-third of the last three days’ average. The count has now reached 158. As per the state’s media bulletin, three cases have been reported from Jalandhar, two SAS Nagar and one each from Patiala and Pathankot. TNS
Four new cases in HP
Shimla: Four fresh cases have been reported in Himachal, taking the tally to 32, including one death. Two cases each have been reported from Solan and Una districts. The two new cases in Solan include a receptionist and a technician at a Baddi hospital, where a 70-year-old woman from Delhi who died at PGI was treated initially. The number of patients in Solan is nine. Two more Tablighi Jamaat followers from Una have tested positive, taking the total number in the district to 14. TNS
Six more cases in Nuh, Haryana sees 6.6% jump
Chandigarh: With 11 fresh cases, Haryana witnessed a 6.6% jump in infection rate as the state tally reached 177 on Saturday. The fresh cases were reported from Nuh (6), Yamunanagar (2), Faridabad (1), Karnal (1) and Hisar (1). Nuh leads among all districts with 44 cases, followed by 32 in Gurugram and 29 each in Palwal and Faridabad. This came as CM Manohar Lal Khattar suggested the lockdown would be extended by two weeks. Jammu: Seventeen more cases — 12 in Valley and five in Jammu, among them three Jamaatis — were reported in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, taking the total to 224. TNS
