With Jyotiraditya Scindia’s “official joining” of the BJP postponed till Wednesday or Thursday, speculation is rife over what options he may be contemplating to work out a “larger national-level plan” to take forward the “dream of his late father Madhavrao Scindia”.

“Nothing is certain as of now. We are being told he will come to Gwalior tomorrow and go to Bhopal on Thursday for formally joining the BJP,” party sources in Gwalior told The Tribune on Tuesday. Some also said the event could take place in Delhi. There was no official announcement till late Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, neither of the two parties is sure of their legislators, and both are said to be securing their respective MLAs by physically removing them to remote locations.

“You cannot underestimate the Congress side,” certain BJP leaders felt. They also suspected Jyotiraditya was “being convinced” by supporters in his bastion of the Gwalior-Chambal region and adjoining Rajasthan to float a party of his own and maintain his independent identify”.

But for any independent ambitions, he would need more supporters, which is not yet assured. This is surely a story that is developing by the hour.
