Ecuador denies giving asylum to Nithyananda
New Delhi, December 6
The Ecuadorian government today denied that it has granted asylum to self-styled Indian godman Nithyananda, wanted in India for alleged rape and abduction, or helped him purchase land in the South American country.
The statement came as the Ministry of External Affairs said it had cancelled Nithyananda’s passport, and had also “sensitised” all its foreign missions and posts to keep track of his movements.
The embassy said it had denied the request of Nithyananda for asylum, and he had left for Haiti. — IANS
