ED attaches land of smuggler in wildlife case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today announced that it has issued provisional order under PMLA to attach land worth Rs. 77.7 lakh in a wildlife case.

The agency in a statement said, it has “provisionally attached a land measuring 5042 sq ft in Kolkata valuing Rs 77.7 lakh under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA), belonging to a notorious smuggler of wildlife Supradip Guha in a case related to Illegal trading and smuggling of wildlife in eastern India”.

The ED alleged that accused Guha, a resident of Baguiati, Kolkata, was involved in large-scale illegal trade of wild life in West Bengal since long. “During February 2014 Custom Authority had recovered and seized 3 Chimpanzees, 4 Marmosets, and 278 precious birds of Indian and foreign origin from his premises,” it said.
