New Delhi, June 10
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today said it had brought back 108 consignments of various overseas (UAE and Hong Kong) entities of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi from Hong Kong on Wednesday.
“Values of these goods have been declared to be around Rs 1,350 crore, which include polished diamonds, pearls and silver jewelry and were kept in the warehouse of a logistics company in Hong Kong. These consignments were brought back to Mumbai and all consignments weigh around 2,340 kg,” the ED said in an official statement.
The enforcement probe agency received a credible input in July 2018 that these consignments had been sent to Hong Kong from Dubai in 2018.
The ED officials consistently remain engaged in discussion with various authorities in Hong Kong and after finalisation of various modalities, these valuables were brought back to India after completing all the legal formalities, it said, adding that of total 108 consignments, 32 belong to the entities controlled by Nirav Modi and rests belong to entities controlled by Mehul Choksi.
Both businessmen are being probed by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in connection with an over $2 billion alleged bank fraud at a PNB branch in Mumbai.
