New Delhi, May 27
With Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne saying that fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, who has been found in Dominica, will be repatriated to India, the agencies today said they were in touch with authorities in Dominica.
Talking to a news agency, Browne is reported to have said Dominica had agreed for Choksi’s repatriation and Antigua would not accept him back. He is learnt to have said he had requested PM Skerrit and law enforcement in Dominica not to return Choksi to Antigua where he had legal and constitutional protection as a citizen.
Choksi is wanted by Indian investigative agencies in the Rs 13,000-crore PNB scam on fraud charges. He went missing on Sunday from Antigua and a manhunt was launched by the Antigua police.
Officials in the MEA here said the agencies through diplomatic channels were “in touch with both the governments — Antigua and Dominica”. This is the domain of the MHA, ED and CBI and they are making the efforts, officials said. — TNS
