New Delhi, July 12
A day after high drama, the fight between AIADMK’s “interim general secretary” Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and “expelled” senior leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) reached the Election Commission and banks.
The two also moved the Madras High Court against the sealing of the party headquarters by the Tamil Nadu Government following violence on Monday. After the violent clash between their supporters, the office was sealed to maintain “peace and tranquility” in the area.
OPS wrote to the poll panel, calling the proceedings and decisions at the general council on Monday “null and void” and to the banks stating he was still the “coordinator and treasurer” of the party. He said no transactions could be made without his authorisation. The party has various accounts, including fixed deposits. OPS said as per the records of the EC, he still held the posts, and the decision to appoint Dindigul C Sreenivasan in his place was “invalid”.
Matters regarding developments in the AIADMK are pending before the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court, he said. OPS loyalist Vaithilingam told the media that “coordinator OPS and joint coordinator Palaniswami were elected by primary party members through a single vote as per norms and
this cannot be nullified by the general council”.
