Expiring driving licences, RCs valid till June 30: Centre

The Centre on Friday extended the validity of documents including driving licences and registration certificates under the Motor Vehicles Act till June 30 this year in the wake of stalled renewal processes due to Covid-related restrictions.
In an advisory to states and UTs today, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways intimated the decision to extend the validity of relevent documents under the MVA Act-1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules-1989.
The ministry had earlier said validity of fitness, permit (all types), driving licence, registration or other documents whose extension of validity could not be or was not likely to be granted due to the lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2000, or would expire by March 31, 2021 be treated as extended till March 31, 2021.
With fresh Covid surge and restrictions, the Centre today said “taking into account the grim situation still continuing due to the conditions for prevention of spread of Covid-19, it is advised that the validity of all above stated documents whose extension could not be granted due to the lockdown and which had expired since February 1, 2020, or would expire by June 30, 2021, be treated as valid till June 31, 2021.
The advisory has been sent to all state DGPs, principal secretaries, Transport and Transport Commissioners.
