External Affairs Minister welcomes German vision for Indo-Pacific

The Indo-Pacific has emerged as a new area of cooperation in the Indo-German strategic partnership, said Foreign Ministers of both countries while exchanging messages today on the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed the German vision for the Indo-Pacific and called upon his counterpart Heiko Maas to enhance the quality of strategic engagement to face challenges to the global order.

Maas said Germany’s foreign policy guidelines on the Indo-Pacific represent a “commitment to even closer dialogue with India and the region in future on issues ranging from urbanisation and green growth to rules-based international order”. “The EU too needs to take such strategic approach to the Indo-Pacific,” said the minister. — TNS
