Amid growing criticism, the Centre today decided to increase the subsidy on DAP fertiliser from Rs 500 per bag to Rs 1,200 per bag, an increase of 140 per cent. The decision comes despite the rise in prices of fertilisers in the international market.
The PMO said the government was committed to the welfare of farmers and “will make all efforts to ensure the farmers do not have to face the brunt of price rise. —TNS
