New Delhi, February 1

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said villages and farmers were at the heart of the Union Budget with several provisions to boost agriculture and raise farmers’ income.

Hailing the Budget as one that would lay the foundation for the new decade and a self-reliant India, the PM said: “The Budget has many provisions for the agriculture sector and increasing farmers’ income. Farmers will get more credit. Provisions have been made for strengthening the agriculture produce market committees (APMCs) and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. This shows villages and our farmers are at the heart of this Budget.”

By mentioning the APMCs, the PM sought to dispel farmers’ concerns about mandis being demolished through new farm laws.

The PM said the Budget showcased India’s self-belief and “would infuse new confidence in the world in these difficult times”.

“The Budget carries a vision of Atamnirbharta and inclusion of all sections,” the PM said, adding that it would provide new opportunities for growth.

Noting that the Budget would enhance ease of living by simplifying procedures, the PM said: “This Budget will bring positive changes for individuals, investors, industry and infrastructure sector.”

Calling the Budget holistic, the PM said: “The emphasis on research and innovation will help the youth. Common men and women will benefit by the focus on health, cleanliness, nutrition, clean water and equality of opportunities. Enhanced allocations in infrastructure and procedural reforms will help job creation and growth.”

He hailed the positive response the Budget received within hours of presentation, saying that the government had given adequate attention to its responsibility towards fiscal sustainability while increasing the budget size.
