Kolkata, January 2
BCCI president and former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly (48) suffered a mild heart attack this morning while working out in his home gymnasium.
His condition is stated to be stable now. Doctors at Kolkata’s Woodlands Hospital, where Sourav has been admitted, said blockage was found in his three coronary arteries. A stent has been placed in one of his arteries by carrying out angioplasty. A similar procedure may be conducted on Monday again to place stents in the two remaining partially blocked arteries of Sourav.
Ganguly felt unwell while working out on a treadmill in the morning. He called the hospital himself and soon after, turned up at the hospital with his physician Saptarshi Basu. “He came to the hospital himself without wasting any time. This was very important”, doctors said.
Aftab Khan, one of the five-members of the medical board constituted by the hospital for monitoring the health of Ganguly, said ruled out bypass surgery for the cricketer. “Stents will do just fine. He should recover completely after the treatment,” he said.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar went to see Ganguly in the hospital and reported that the cricketer was looking alright.
Chief Minister Manmata Banerjee also expressed concern about Ganguly’s health and wished him “speedy and full recovery”.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also called up and offered to help Ganguly get treatment at AIIMS in New Delhi.
