Goel re-elected Speaker

The first session of the seventh Delhi Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday. The maiden session post Delhi elections saw Ram Niwas Goel being re-elected as the Speaker of the Delhi’s Legislative Assembly.
Goel is MLA from Shahdara and is going to commence his third term as Speaker of the House. His name was proposed by Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia.
AAP MLA Shoaib Iqbal was elected pro tem Speaker to administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected MLAs. He administered the oath of office and secrecy to all newly elected MLAs, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Sisodia, in the Central Hall of the Assembly.
Sixty-one members took oath in Hindi, three members in Urdu, two members in Maithili and one member each in English and Punjabi.
Chief Minister Kejriwal said Goel was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. It is clear that both party and the opposition have full confidence in him.
BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri was appointed Leader of the Opposition. The BJP has eight seats in its account, while the Congress could not win any seat in Delhi. The Assembly schedule also read that Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Anil Baijal will address the House on Tuesday.
