Amid spiralling Covid cases in the country, the demand for medical oxygen in the country has gone through the roof.

Empty tankers will begin their journey from Kalamboli and Boisar railway stations in and near Mumbai on Monday to load liquid medical oxygen from Vizag, Jamshedpur, Rourkela and Bokaro, officials said. The Railway Ministry said the trains would be run through green corridor for fast movement of the LMO as availability of oxygen was crucial in the treatment of certain medical conditions due to Covid infection.

The Maharastra and Madhya Pradesh Governments had approached the Railway Ministry to explore whether LMO tankers could be moved by the Railways. — TNS
