HAL, Honeywell ink $100-mn pact for engines

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a contract with US company Honeywell for the supply of engines.

The contract worth over $100 million (approx Rs 780 crore) is for the supply and manufacture of 88 engines along with maintenance and support services to power the Hindustan Trainer Aircraft (HTT-40). R Madhavan, Chairman and Managing Director of the HAL, said, “A basic trainer aircraft (HTT-40) has been developed to address the requirements of the IAF. There is potential requirement of 70 aircraft. The contract for the same is in the advanced stage of approval.”

‘TPE331-12B’ is a single-shaft turboprop engine. The HTT-40 prototypes have been powered by the same engines and has been serving well since. Entering into this manufacturing and repair license agreement marks a major milestone in the execution of HTT-40 aircraft contract with the IAF.
