The heat wave conditions prevailing over north-western India are expected to abate from Wednesday along with the possibility of light rain and thunderstorm over some parts of the region, the weather office said on Tuesday.
The maximum temperatures over the region is very likely to fall by 3-5 degrees Celsius during the next two days, according to a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today thereafter the temperature is expected to rise by 2-3 degrees.
Severe heat wave conditions over parts of Himachal Pradesh and heat wave conditions over some parts of Punjab, Delhi and isolated parts of Haryana had prevailed during the past 48 hours.
“Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi on April 19 and 20. Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions also likely over Rajasthan and south Haryana on April 19. It is likely to abate thereafter due to approaching western disturbance, wind conditions and cloudiness over the region,” the bulletin said.
Under influence of the western disturbance, light scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are very likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh during the next four days.
In addition, light isolated rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on April 20 and 21, the IMD has forecast.
