Inspector General Ishwar Singh Duhan has assumed command of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force’s (ITBP) Basic Training Centre at Bhanu near Chandigarh. Prior to this, he was serving as Inspector General (Training) at the ITBP Headquarters in New Delhi, responsible for formulating, executing and reviewing all training policies and activities.

A highly experienced officer and sportsman, he had joined the ITBP in 1986 as an Assistant Commandant. Later he commanded a battalion tasked for internal security duties in Kashmir and then a battalion deployed on the border in Uttarakhand. He has also headed the ITBP’s commando contingent in Kashmir and served in Naxal-hit areas.

His appointments include the command of ITBP’s Ladakh Sector that includes areas of Galwan and Daulat Beg Oldie as a Deputy Inspector General and overseeing operations, intelligence and training in the north-east.

Duhan has also had a stint with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Bosnia–Herzegovina. He was also closely associated with the raising of ITBP’s 37 Battalion and the force’s Disaster Management Institute. He is a qualified mountaineer, with four expeditions under his belt, and a rafter.
