New Delhi, August 8

The UP Government on Monday sent a bulldozer to a Noida society to raze an illegal structure constructed by politician Shrikant Tyagi, who claims to be a BJP member even as the party has distanced itself from him.

Tyagi had encroached upon a part of an area meant for all society residents at Grand Omaxe Society in Sector 93-B, Noida, a few days ago. His spat with a resident, wherein he was heard hurling abuses at her, had gone viral on social media.

The state government yesterday invoked the Gangster Act on Tyagi, who is yet to surrender. Also, six police officials were suspended today for dereliction of duty after nearly 15 goons entered the society last evening and threatened the woman who had questioned Tyagi. Two personal security officers had not been given to the woman, the Noida police said.

Congress general secretary (UP) Priyanka Vadra termed the bulldozer action against Tyagi a “gimmick”. “Didn’t the BJP government know for so many years that the construction by their Noida leader is illegal? The government is evading answers to key questions. Who gave this man the courage to indulge in indecent behaviour with a woman and threaten her by sending goons?” said Priyanka.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Khemchand Sharma, however, thanked the Yogi Adityanath government for taking “strict action against violators of the law”. Noida MP and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma had visited the society after news of goons barging into the area and threatening residents spread. Sharma questioned the administration and the police how 15 men could enter the society?
