India on Thursday amended the foreign trade regulation rules to ban the export of alcohol-based hand sanitizers until further notice.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade, under the Ministry of Commerce, passed the orders as India feared a long haul over the COVID-19 pandemic, which is not showing signs of regression as of now.

The daily rise in COVID cases has been more than 2,500 for four days now, causing a relatively flat curve to take an upward trajectory.

The demand for sanitizers is predicted to surge in the country.
