Members of the INDIA bloc on Tuesday met at the new Parliament House and decided to put up a united front against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill to be tabled in the Lok Sabha tomorrow.

This was the first meeting of the bloc constituents during the ongoing Budget session. While the members had been meeting regularly for floor coordination in the past, the practice was discontinued during the current session. Congress leaders, however, maintained that it shouldn’t be seen as a sign of discord and that the Opposition parties would meet when necessary.

“All Opposition parties are united and shall work together on the floor of Parliament to defeat the unconstitutional and divisive agenda of the Modi government on the Waqf Amendment Bill,” Congress president and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge posted on X. “Floor leaders of the INDIA Alliance held a meeting today in Parliament... During this meeting, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was discussed at length with the floor leaders of both Houses,” the Congress said.
