As India registered a record single-day spike of 1,45,384 new infections on Saturday, it achieved the milestone of administering 10 crore vaccine doses in 85 days, becoming the fastest in the world to do so.

“Strengthening the efforts to ensure a healthy and Covid-free India,” tweeted PM Narendra Modi, with the graph showing India’s vaccine coverage.

Maharashtra reported the highest daily new cases at 58,993, followed by Chhattisgarh (11,447) and Uttar Pradesh (9,587).

Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, UP, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, MP, Gujarat and Rajasthan have shown a steep rise in the daily cases, accounting for 82.82 per cent of the new infections, the Union Health Ministry said.

Ten districts — Pune, Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Bengaluru Urban, Nashik, Delhi, Raipur, Durg and Aurangabad — account for 45.65 per cent of 10,46,631 active cases, which now comprise 7.93 per cent of the total infections. Maharashtra alone accounts for 51.23 per cent of the total active cases in the country, the ministry said.
