Narinder Singh Jamwal assumed charge as Additional Director General of Border Security Force’s (BSF) Western Command, Chandigarh, on Tuesday.
Prior to this, he was serving as Inspector General at BSF’s Jammu Frontier.
BSF’s Western Command is responsible for the peace time management of the border with Pakistan from Jammu and Kashmir in the north to Rann of Kutch in the south.
Jamwal had joined the BSF in 1984 as an Assistant Commandant (Direct Entry). He brings with him an enormous amount of experience of serving in counter-insurgency areas of north-eastern states as well as Jammu and Kashmir.
He has held important assignments both in command and staff, including a tenure in BSF Headquarters in New Delhi, and attended several training courses in India and abroad.
The officer also has been an Instructor at BSF’s Commando Training Centre in Tekanpur, which trains commandos for various Central Armed Police forces and state police organisations. He also has had a stint with the National Security Guards, India’s counter terrorist special force.
Jamwal is a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguish Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal.
