JEE, NEET syllabi unchanged

The Ministry of Education on Tuesday announced that the JEE and NEET syllabi would remain unchanged for 2021. However, unlike previous years, students will be given a choice to answer 75 questions (25 questions each in physics, chemistry and mathematics) out of 90 (30 questions each in physics, chemistry and mathematics).

In JEE (Main) 2020, there were 75 questions, all of which had to be answered (25 questions each in physics, chemistry and mathematics), as per an official statement.

“The exact pattern for NEET (UG) is yet to be announced. However, in view of the reduction in syllabus by some boards across the country, the NEET (UG) question paper will have options on the lines of JEE (Main),” it said.

Admission to various undergraduate programmes in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur (West Bengal), and other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) are made on the basis of ranks/merit in JEE (Main), which is conducted by the National Testing Agency.

To qualify for admission to IITs, NITs and IIITs, students should have secured at least 75 per cent marks in Class XII or be in the top 20 percentile in the Class XII exams conducted by the respective boards.
