The Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) of OP Jindal Global University in Sonepat has broken into the QS World University Subject Rankings-2020 in Law, its regional director said on Wednesday.
Ashwin Fernandes, Regional Director, QS Quacquarelli said the law school has been ranked in the 101-150 band, while the National Law School of India University ( NLSIU), Bengaluru has been ranked in the 151-200 band.
‘QS World University Ranking’ is an annual publication of University ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) having headquarters in UK.
JOP Jinda Global University is an entity in the private sector, established in the name of former Haryana Minister and industrialist late OP Jindal.
“I am delighted that for the first time, in our QS World University Rankings by Subject in Law, we not only have a young institution-but also one that is top in India,” Fernandes said, adding that National Law Law School of India University, Bengaluru, made it to the 151-200 range,.
“QS subject Ranking in Law measures the global relevance of institutions specifically in the area of research in law measures global relevance of institutions specifically in the area of research in law along with combing reputation from the academic community and employers,” Fernandes said.
The methodology is subject-sensitive and looks specifically at universities or institutions which have a strong focus in law. Hence, only the best 300 law schools globally make it to the list, he added.
OP Jindal Global University’s founding Chancellor Naveen Jindal described the development as a “historic” occasion.
