JNU violence: Delhi Police set up 'fact-finding' committee'; say they have vital links

New Delhi, January 6 

Delhi Police have set up a parallel fact-finding committee headed by Joint Commissioner of Police Western Range Shalini Singh to gather facts with regard to Sunday’s violence, an official on Monday.  

 “Delhi Police has vital clues with regard to Sunday and we hope to crack the case soon,” Delhi MS Randhawa said at a press conference. Crucial evidence, he claimed, included code words and video clips.

This fact-finding committee is in addition to the ongoing criminal investigation into the incident, the official said.  

The development comes after Delhi Police rejected allegations of reaching the Jawaharlal Nehru University late despite several pleas by students’ unions, asserting that they responded to PCR calls and law-and-order situation professionally to control the violence on the campus.

Addressing reporters, Delhi Police spokesperson Mandeep Singh Randhawa said the internal security of the JNU lies with the varsity administration.

“We have responded to PCR calls, and law-and-order situation professionally,” he said.

On the probe initiated after a masked mob attacked students on the campus on Sunday, he said the Crime Branch had found some vital clue and were working on it. — PTI
