New Delhi, February 3

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh on Monday called his Delhi counterpart and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal “a master of deceit” and accused the BJP of converting the entire country into Shaheen Bagh by resorting to polarisation as an election tactic.

Addressing a meeting in Hari Nagar in favour of Congress candidate Surinder Setia in Delhi, he said Kejriwal had done nothing exceptional by providing cheap power or setting up mohalla clinics. “Some people will surely be happy with these freebies but what has he really done for the development of Delhi? What has he done for creating jobs for your children,” he asked the audience.

“In Punjab we have given 11 lakh jobs to the youth,” the Punjab CM said, adding that Delhi needed industrial development. He regretted that AAP and BJP had both sacrificed the interests of Delhites while the city had seen huge progress under the late Sheila Dikshit. “Only Congress can ensure Delhi’s development,” he underlined.

“The BJP is attempting to polarise the elections with Shaheen Bagh but they will not succeed. The entire country has become Shaheen Bagh with protests against CAA and National Register of Citizens,” he remarked. Citing unrest in universities, he said, “Students are being shot at.”

In an informal chat with the media, the CM said, “Kejriwal is giving power subsidy to only a section of residential consumers while my government spends Rs 9,000- Rs 10,000 crore on subsidy to all sections. Kejriwal is making commercial and industrial consumers in Delhi pay through their nose.”

Amarinder refused to predict how many seats the Congress would win in Delhi but cliamed the party was in a strong position. “Claims of AAP wave are a myth, as they were in Punjab in 2017,” he said. AICC in- charge of Punjab Asha Kumari and Punjab MLAs Raja Warring and Kulbir Singh Zira also spoke.

Amarinder later held a roadshow in Kalkaji for Congress’ Shivani Chopra.
