Kishore Kumar Samman for Waheeda Rehman
Bhopal: Noted yesteryear actor Waheeda Rehman will be conferred the Madhya Pradesh Government’s National Kishore Kumar Samman on Tuesday, a state official said in Bhopal. The award, for 2018, will be given to Rehman at her Bandra residence in Mumbai by Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Vijaylaxmi Sadho, the MP Public Relations Department official said. Rehman will turn 82 on Monday. The award, which carries Rs2 lakh cash prize and citation, could not be given to Rehman in October last year as the actor was unwell. PTI
SC/ST filters: Matrimonial site under fire in UK
London: India’s leading matrimonial site Shaadi.com has come under fire in the UK for allegedly reinforcing caste-based discrimination with an option for Scheduled Castes to be left out of algorithms. The website, which is UK’s largest marriage site catering to the Indian community, has been accused of allowing discrimination against the Scheduled Caste community, and raised questions about whether its algorithms are consistent with the country’s equality law. To curb accidents, group paints speed breakers
Panaji: In a move aimed at reducing road accidents, a citizens’ group in Goa has so far painted over 130 speed breakers in the state in white colour to increase their visibility, which has earned praise from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The group has been carrying out this activity under the #RostoGoa campaign. Activist Cecille Rodrigues, who is leading the campaign, said, “The speed breakers had turned blind spots, causing road accidents. The RostoGoa initiative began from my own Taleigao constituency and spread to other areas.” PTI
