Labour codes to boost productivity, explains PM
NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 30
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the historic labour codes would help increase productivity.
In a special congratulatory message to the Labour Bureau on the occasion of its centenary celebrations, the Prime Minister said in keeping with the spirit of the mantra “Shramev Jayate”, the government, committed to the welfare of labour, had taken continuous and integrated steps. He appreciated the bureau’s work of generating labour, price and employment statistics with great “allegiance” and “dedication” for the past hundred years.
The Prime Minister said the bureau’s rich legacy of data generation needed to be fully capitalised for better policy making in the field of labour and employment, he added. He also expressed firm belief that the bureau would use latest technologies in the fields of data collection, analysis and dissemination.
In a related event, the Centre will soon launch an “All-India Quarterly Survey on Employment Enterprises” vide its Labour Bureau to collect data for inputs to frame and implement policies relating to the country’s workforce.
The Union Labour and Employment Ministry has given a nod to the survey.
Besides, the Labour Ministry has decided to designate the Labour Bureau as the nodal agency for collection of statistical returns under all labour codes. Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar released a special stamp on the Labour Bureau. He said workers in organised and unorganised sectors would be covered in the survey. — TNS
