Mahant Giri found dead in Allahabad

Mahant Narendra Giri, the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, was found dead at Baghambari Muth here on Monday, the police said. The Parishad is the largest organisation of sadhus in India.

Inspector General of Police KP Singh said the Mahant’s body was found hanging from the ceiling by his disciples. As per a purported suicide note found at the site, the seer was mentally disturbed.The influential seer was hospitalised in April after he tested positive for Covid-19.

Condoling the death, PM Narendra Modi said the seer had played an important role in bringing together various organisations of seers.” The demise is extremely painful,” he tweeted. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said the death was is an irreparable loss. — TNS
