Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday met WHO chief scientist and former director general of ICMR Soumya Swaminathan and discussed the issue of WHO emergency use approval for India-made Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin.

“We had a productive discussion on WHO’s approval for Covaxin. @DoctorSoumya also appreciated India’s efforts for containment of #Covid-19,” Mandaviya tweeted later.

Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR-National Institute of Virology, Pune, had on July 9 completed all formalities with respect to submission of documents and safety data for Covaxin approvals. The WHO’s application processing timeline is up to six weeks. Sources said Covaxin approval could come by August end. — TNS
