BSP national president on Saturday appealed to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel to take note of security of common people and help establish the rule of law in the state.
Taking cognisance of the brazen incident of the Unnao rape accused setting the victim ablaze, resulting in her death, Mayawati personally met the Governor to present her a memorandum on the behalf of the BSP.
In the brief four-paragraph memo, Mayawati pointed out how the rising incidents of violence against women had shaken the people who were feeling extremely insecure.
She underlined the manner in which women accessing justice were being terrorised, murdered or burnt alive leaving people traumatised.
“It is due to such incidents that when the accused of the woman doctor’s rape and murder in Telangana are killed in an encounter that people are forced to be pleased about it”, she said.
“The UP Government’s claims and statistics do not match the reality on the ground where cases of atrocities against women, exploitation, rape and murder have shaken society. People were witnessing the harsh situation where the UP Government due to its wrong policies was bringing a bad name to the state in the country and the across the world,” asserted Mayawati.
Earlier expressing her anguish at the death of the Unnao rape victim, Mayawati, in a series of tweets, said the state governments should take steps to instil the fear of the law.
She also urged the Central government to ensure timely capital punishment for the rapists.
According to her it was now the duty of the state government to provide speedy and complete justice to the family of the victim.
