In what may alarm the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, the Union Home Ministry has convened a tripartite meeting under the chairmanship of MoS Home G Kishan Reddy to discuss the issue of Gorkhaland.

The meeting has been proposed to be held on October 7 in Delhi at room number 119, North Block. Home Secretary of West Bengal, District Magistrate of Darjeeling, Principal Secretary of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Darjeeling and President of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, Darjeeling have been invited to take part in the meeting by the MHA in a letter.

The step follows Darjeeling BJP Member of Parliament Raju Bista’s appeal to the union government in the recently concluded Parliament session of finding a “permanent political solution” of the Gorkhaland issue as promised in the party’s election manifesto.

Bista’s speech drew sharp criticism from West Bengal’s ruling Tronamool Congress.
