Mobile Net ban extended in 7 Haryana districts
Chandigarh, February 1
The Haryana Government on Monday extended the suspension of mobile internet services, bulk SMS service and all dongle services provided on mobile networks except voice calls in the territorial jurisdiction of seven districts — Kaithal, Panipat, Jind, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Sonepat and Jhajjar — till 5 pm of February 2.
A government spokesman said that the state government had decided to impose this suspension of internet services in order to stop the spread of disinformation and rumours through various social media platforms. — TNS
Is it arbitrary? HC to decide
The High Court will adjudicate whether the suspension of mobile internet services was arbitrary and “a measure of collective punishment for crores so they do not exercise their right to freedom of speech and expression”. The HC will also decide whether the suspension of internet services was violation of fundamental right of the petitioners. TNS
