Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a “21st century king” adding that the Congress would provide pro-people governance to the people of Uttarakhand and would never shut its doors on the masses.

“Modi is a 21st century king who thought it below his dignity to talk to the agitating farmers,” Rahul said addressing election rallies in Haridwar and Kichcha.

He said if a PM did not work for all people, he could not be a Prime Minister. “India does not have a Prime Minister today. It has a king who believes that when he takes a decision everyone else should keep quiet. By that standard, Modi is not a PM…He is a 21st century king,” the Congress leader said addressing the “Uttarakhandi Kisan Swabhiman Samvad” rally in Kichcha.

He said the PM left agitating farmers on the roads for over a year in the midst of the Covid pandemic and said the Congress government in Uttarakhand would be open to people.

Rahul had earlier said in the Lok Sabha that the idea of a king was back in India. He had not named the PM in his speech, but said two Indias had been created — one for the poor and one for the rich.

“The PM only cares for his rich industry friends and all others have been left to take care of themselves. The Congress government’s doors will always remain open for the people,” Rahul said again today.
