New Delhi, October 11
Arrested in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, Ashish Mishra, son of Minister of State Ajay Mishra, was today remanded in three-day police custody by a local court.
The prosecution had sought a 14-day remand, noting that the accused had not yet cooperated in the matter and had not been able to satisfactorily answer queries about his location at the time of the crime.
Senior prosecution officer SP Yadav said, “The remand was granted by Chief Judicial Magistrate Chintaram with the condition that Ashish will not be harassed and his lawyer will remain present during interrogation.”
The case is being investigated by an SIT headed by DIG Upendra Agarwal. Ashish has been named as a prime accused in one of the two FIRs lodged in the case.
According to one of the FIRs, he was seated on the left front seat of the Mahindra Thar which was the first of the three SUVs that mowed down protesters on October 3. The FIR says that Ashish was carrying a gun and had escaped into the fields while firing shots. — TNS
