Mumbai to get Rs 300 cr world-class marina

Mumbai will soon get a world-class marina with a parking facility for 300 yachts, according to sources at the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). As per the global tender floated by MbPT, the marina will be built under the public private partnership model at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore. “The marina will be located at Princess Dock of the Mumbai Port Trust,” an official told this reporter.

The winning bidder will get to build the marina and operate it for a period of 50 years which would include the three years it is estimated for the construction to take place. “The operator of the marina will have the right to advertise, rent out parking facilities for yachts and take up tourism-related activities in partnership with MbPT on a profit-sharing basis,” the official said.

MbPT expects to short-list the winning bidder and sign the agreement by the end of July. The construction work on the marina is expected to begin in January next year. A deadline of three years has been set for the project to begin operations.

The operator will be responsible for the work, including designing the marina, and related facilities up to international standards. Infrastructure like pontoons and a computerised vessel-docking system, walkways, shipyards for maintenance and a commercial area will also be put up by the operator.

According to MbPT, the marina will be located between the domestic cruise terminal and the RoRo terminal and would have an area of 8.02 hectares.
