Benaras Hindu University (BHU) students’ protest against the appointment Dr Firoz Khan as Assistant Professor at Sanskrit Vidya Dharam Vigyan (SVDV) may have succeeded as Dr Khan has reportedly returned to his hometown Jaipur, say sources. Dr Khan returned to his hometown on November 19 citing security concerns.
A section of students had launched a vicious protest on November 6 following confirmation of his appointment on November 5. Interestingly, despite the studen’ open defiance of university rules and regulations, BHU Vice Chancellor Rakesh Bhatnagar merely pleaded with them to withdraw their protest.
The university administration till date has not taken punitive action against the protesters.
The Joint Action Committee, comprising students affiliated with to the AISA, NSUI and other non-right wing student groups, organised a march on the campus today evening to express solidarity with Dr Khan.
