The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday said it has conducted searches at various locations in multiple states in connection with its probe into the case relating to seizure of 2,998-kg heroin by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Mundra Port in Gujarat last month.
A senior NIA official said searches were conducted in Chennai, Coimbatore and Vijaywada on premises of accused persons and suspects involved in the import of semi processed Talc stones with contraband. During searches various incriminating documents, articles and other items have been seized, he added.
The NIA recently took over the probe and re-registered the case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act – UAPA.
“The case relates to seizure of 2988.21 kg of heroin seized at Mundra Port, Gujarat having involvement of foreign persons in procurement and delivery of consignment. The narcotics drugs were found concealed in import consignment of ‘Semi-processed Talc stones’ originating from Afghanistan which had arrived from Bandar Abbas Port in Iran,” the official said.
