New Delhi, December 30
The Congress today demanded a HC judge-led inquiry into police action on anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters in Uttar Pradesh. The party also assured legal assistance to people who have been rounded up by the UP Police during agitations against CAA and NRC with Rahul Gandhi asking his cadres to assist such victims.
In UP, AICC general secretary in charge of the state Priyanka Gandhi Vadra led the anti-BJP offensive on the issue taking on Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath for recent statements that he would “seek revenge on those who damaged public property during CAA protests”.
Addressing the press, she said, “The UPCM wears the clothes of a yogi. He wears saffron. Saffron does not belong to him…it’s the symbol of Hindu religious and spiritual traditions. This is the land of Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, who symbolise compassion. India’s soul has no place for violence, revenge and rancour.” She alleged that the UP CM must be the only CM in India’s history to declare revenge on his own people.
CONGRESS LEADER FLOUTED NORMS: CRPF

Priyanka steered clear of queries on UP Police allegedly manhandling her — a claim she had made day before while on the way to meet the family of retired IPS officer in Lucknow. “The question of my safety is useless. I am here to talk about the safety of the people of UP,” she said.
A UP Congress delegation met Governor Anandiben Patel with four demands which Priyanka read out, “We have sought a UP Home Department inquiry into unlawful acts of UP Police against protesters; a judicial inquiry by a sitting or a retired HC judge into the authenticity of FIRs the state police have registered against protesters; stay on confiscation of properties of protesters till such time as the judicial probe concludes and assurance that no academic or legal action would be taken against students named for protests.”
