A Parliamentary Committee report on Commission of Railway Safety (CRS), submitted to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, noted that only 8-10 per cent of accidents were enquired by the CRS, while the rest of the accidents were enquired by Railways itself and in such cases the reports were not referred to CRS.

While timeframe exists for CRS to submit reports of its investigation into accidents (30 days for preliminary report and 180 days for final report), no timeframe has been fixed for MoR to submit its Action Taken Reports (ATR).
